Architecture

Property development in London can be a long and complicated business so it’s important that the architect is involved from the very beginning of the process. Marldon works closely with architectural practice, Smith & Brooke, and has done so since 1991. Smith & Brooke share offices with us in Clapham Old Town.

Founding partner Simon Smith works closely with Charlie Markes to determine the viability of a project and the steps required to make progress. This includes looking at planning issues, marketability and sketch schemes, then feasibility studies and planning applications. Simon also has regular contact with Henry Bartlett regarding the construction side of the operation, as well as Tony Bartlett for strategic discussions, and John Dunnington-Jefferson for management and procurement matters.

Smith & Brooke is an integral part of the property development process for Marldon, from initial concept to final design. They are also involved in sales and marketing, land registry issues, and as well as architecture, interior design. This includes 3D imagery, material selections and mood boards. The design team can discuss updates or changes to areas which need amending or updating.

This is because the involvement of Smith & Brooke doesn’t necessarily end with the original plans and designs. They are regularly brought back in to revisit properties 15 or 20 years after the original build to update and refurbish, to ensure they are adapted to what is an ever-changing market. As Smith & Brooke have the original specifications in their archives, the updating process is simple and efficient.

The relationship between Marldon and Smith & Brooke is built on loyalty and trust, having been nurtured over many years. This partnership results in a high quality product and service for the client, whether the property is for residential or commercial use.
